Kate Coleman

Originally from Chicago, Kate Coleman began her ballet training at the age of two and a half with a small studio in Naperville, Illinois after an accident led to a broken femur. Dance became her therapy and passion. At age nine, she trained at The Ruth Page Center for the Arts under Patricia Klekovic and Dolores Long, and later, with Forum Jazz Dance Theater (FJDT) under the direction of Eddy Ocampo and Ballet master Brent Caburnay, performing internationally in Austria, Italy, and Germany, and as a soloist at the Regional Dance America convention in Montreal, Canada.
Kate received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Theatre from AMDA College and Conservatory in Los Angeles. During her time there, she trained under esteemed teachers such as Nicole Berger, Nancy Dobbs-Owen, DJ Smart, Gracie Whyte, and Genevieve Carson. During her time at school, in addition to dancing and choreographing for the BFA Dance Concert Shows, Kate choreographed and directed an evening length piece, a dance narrative short-film, and a site-specific work inspired by the poems of Shel Silverstein.
Kate’s professional performance career spans television, film, stage, immersive entertainment, and commercial work. She is the Associate Choreographer for Mixed eMotion Theatrix, in addition to dancing in the company. Kate is a former Rehearsal Director and company member of LA Contemporary Dance Company. Her television and film credits include HBO, Disney+, and Adult Swim. Kate also works in immersive entertainment, performing at Universal Studios Hollywood as a Beauxbaton and dance captain for the Triwizard Spirit Rally in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, as well as being the maintenance choreographer for Blumhouse’s M3gan experience at Halloween Horror Nights. She danced as an adagio couple for the Angel of Light haunted experience in the historic Los Angeles Theatre.
She has appeared in music videos for artists such as Justin Bieber (2U), YeRin Baek (Tell Us About Yourself), and Sulli (Goblin), and in print and online content for brands like MeUndies and Dr. Squatch. On stage, she has performed in productions such as Anais: A Dance Opera, So Now You Know, and LA Contemporary Dance Company’s Dancing in Snow, RIFT and Force Majeure. As a choreographer, Kate worked as the choreography consultant on the Netflix original series CocoMelon Lane. She has assisted on a range of high-profile television shows and movies, including Rutherford Falls, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Bless This Mess, VEEP, The Good Place, and Deadwood: The Movie.
On stage, Kate has choreographed for productions such as So Now You Know, Daughter of the Wicked, The Serpent, and LACDC’s collaboration with Loyola Marymount University for their Children’s Music Concert. Additionally, she was awarded the prestigious 2024 Dance in the City film commission by the City of Los Angeles.
In addition to her performance work, Kate is a dedicated choreographer and storyteller, often combining contemporary dance with narrative elements to create compelling visual experiences. Her work explores themes of identity, connection, and transformation, by using whimsy and imagination, with a focus on elevating diverse voices, emphasizing women and queer stories. Kate’s creative portfolio continues to expand as she directs and choreographs for stage, film, and beyond.
